1. ASSESS THE HISTORY OF YOUR SITE AND THE TREE’S PLACE IN IT:
Determining the current status of the tree and the likely impact of its surrounds are having on both its above and below ground parts.
Gaining an appreciation of your expectations of the tree and the tree’s capacity to meet those needs under the circumstances; as well as any issues that the tree may be causing that are of concern or that you are unaware of.
Advising you of the likely short and long term consequences of the various ways of addressing the issues and concerns and the associated costs.
Formulating an agreed plan of action and a quotation for the works.
2. FUNCTIONAL AND COSMETIC PRUNING:
Tree Safety: The first stage of this operation is to ensure that all reasonable measures have been taken to have your tree as safe as it can be within the places that it stands in light of the activities that go on beneath or near it. This usually includes cleaning out dead wood, attending to crossing or problematic stems and reducing branch loadings where it is structurally necessary to ensure adequate tree safety (we refer to this as a “Clean & Thin” for safety).
Resolving Tree Related Problems: There are many ways of addressing your personal concerns such as raising tree canopies, reducing tree height or spread to provide clearances; peripheral crown thinning to reduce litter loads or to allow for more light penetration and air circulation; selective stem removal to accommodate buildings or neighbours etc. Root issues may require selective root pruning; soil aeration; soil drenching or other root zone management techniques.
Arboricultural Knowledge Is Not Enough: The effectiveness of all of the above is dependant on how arboricultural knowledge and training is applied; appreciating why, where and how the pruning cuts are made and being able to correctly diagnose the primary cause(s) that underlie the problems or concerns.
3. TREE DIAGNOSTICS:
Being Able To Correctly Determine The Primary Cause of a particular tree problem. These tend to be linked to people activities (e.g. trenching for services such as irrigation, power, gas, water etc; construction of buildings or paths and the associated soil level changes and toxic spills etc), that have occurred in the past 2 – 5 years which have led to the onset of insect or fungal attack.
Identify The Pest or Disease that may be adversely affecting your tree(s) and if treatment is worthwhile under the circumstances. If it is, then the life cycle of the pest or disease needs to be understood to enable timely treatment to remedy the problem.
4. DANGEROUS TREES:
Safe removal of trees (or their parts) that present a danger to people or property.
