Another World First for Arbor Centre – Giant Boab (estimated to be 750 years old)
Believed to be a world first, this giant Boab (Adansonia gregorii) underwent a 3200km journey from Telegragh Creek Bridge (near Turkey Creek in the Kimberleys) to Two Rivers Lookout at Kings Park.
The project could not have gone ahead without the blessing of the traditional land owners (the Gija people of the Kimberley and the Nyoongar people of the South).
Thanks to Team Savannah for incubating the project; the support and donations of Cranes by Boom Logistics for the loading and planting operations; the Escorts (Oz west), Police, Horizon Power, Main Roads & Local Authorities for resolving the logistics of transport along the route; and Kings Park for its support, in enabling Arbor Centre to put into practice its expertise and experience in transplanting this iconic Boab into its prominent location in the Botanic Gardens of Kings Park.
